“BOOKMARK” SWITCH FOR TALKING
BOOK MACHINES
Our engineer became aware
that users of Talking Book
Machines often fell asleep (or
had a phone call or other
interruption) while listening to
books and magazines. The tape
continued playing, losing the listener's
“place”. He developed a switch and 6' long
cord, which plugs into the existing remote control
port on the tape player (marked REM) and interrupts
the power unless our momentary “dead man” switch
is held down. As users begin to doze off, they relax,
release pressure on the switch and the recording
pauses at that point - in effect, creating a bookmark.
To resume listening, it is a simple matter to rewind a
short distance and pick up the recording where it left
off. Especially useful when following instructions or
recipes, for students, or anyone who relaxes by
listening to talking books.
